LED light color temperature is a color characteristic index of a light source defined based on the blackbody radiation theory. It is expressed in absolute temperature (K) to represent the correspondence between the color of the light source and the color of radiation emitted when a blackbody is heated. According to the numerical range, it can be divided into three main categories: low color temperature, medium color temperature, and high color temperature.
In layman’s terms, LED color temperature is the color of the light emitted by LED lights.
Types of color temperatures in LED lights
- Low color temperature (less than 3000K): Produces a warm reddish-yellow hue, similar to tungsten filament lamps (2700K) and halogen lamps (3000K), suitable for creating a warm atmosphere in bedrooms, dining rooms, etc.
- Medium color temperature (3000-6000K): Produces a white hue close to natural light, including pure white light (5500-6500K) and neutral white light (4000-5500K), widely used in general lighting applications such as offices and commercial spaces.
- High color temperature (greater than 6000K): Has a distinctly cool blue hue, commonly found in industrial lighting and special decorative applications; color temperatures can reach up to 10000K.

How to select the LED light color temperature (CCT)
Different fields have specific technical requirements for LED color temperature:
- Home Lighting: Like anti-glare downlights for living rooms, utilizing 2700-3500K warm white light to enhance comfort, combined with stepless dimming to adapt to day and night rhythms.
- Commercial lighting: such as the office lighting project with LED panel lights 600x600mm, using 4000-5500K neutral white light to ensure accurate color reproduction of merchandise; luxury goods counters can be upgraded to high color rendering standards.
- Automotive Lighting: Headlights require a color temperature uniformity error of no more than ±150K, using 5000-6000K white light to ensure road visibility.
- Healthcare: Developing a dynamic color temperature adjustment system; 6500K cool white light for surgical lighting; and 3000K warm white light for psychological therapy support.i
